The event
The pilgrimage in honor of San Julián is celebrated on the weekend closest to September 5th. The festivities begin early with the ringing of bells marking the departure of the parish's patron saint. The image is carried in a mule-drawn carriage, accompanied by the senior brothers of each year and the faithful pilgrims. The route takes them to the San Julián hermitage, located on Pimiento Hill, 7 km from the municipality, in the hamlet of the same name. The celebration continues with a Mass at the doors of the hermitage, officiated by the parish priest of Marmolejo. After Mass, the image is displayed in the hermitage for the devotion of the faithful and then processions through the streets of the San Julián hamlet. At nightfall, the image and the pilgrims return to the Marmolejo parish in the same carriage.
